Obituary
Si “Bac Si” Tan Pham, 80, of Silver Spring, Maryland, passed away peacefully while holding his son’s hand, Monday, January 22, 2018 at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, January 30 at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, Virginia 22032. Traditional Buddhist Ceremony will be held. Cremation will follow. Friends may call from 12:00 until 8:00 pm, Monday, January 29 at the funeral home.
Si Tan Pham was born May 16, 1937 in Saigon, Vietnam to Thi Van Pham and Nen Thi Huynh. He graduated with honors from Trường Quốc Gia Thương Mại, Saigon in 1962 with an accounting degree. In 1963, he married Liên Kim Thi Đặng. They would have seven children together. He served as a Captain for the South Vietnamese Army during the Vietnam War. In 1979, he left a war-torn Vietnam with three of his youngest sons in tow to America to reunite with his friends and family. In 1982, he remarried Bởi Thi Phan. He worked at the Washington Post as a printing technician and retired in 2001. He managed to create a life for his family in the America and was able to visit Vietnam after his retirement. He helped numerous Vietnamese immigrant families acclimate themselves to America through his support and guidance. He was humorous, charismatic and a phenomenal story teller. Prior to his passing, he would spend his time helping his sons with their real estate business endeavors and most of his weekends with his grandchildren.
Si Tan Pham is survived by his wife, Kim Cúc Nguyen; six children, Anh Khanh Pham and his wife, Mai Le of Bristol, VA, Anh Thu Lasserre and her husband Frédéric Lasserre of Clermont-Ferrand, France, Anh Phong Pham and his wife, Nina SuYong Song of Woodbine, MD, Anh Quang Pham and his wife, Dung Quan Pham of Leesburg, VA, Anh Minh Pham and his wife Mary Quach Pham of Orlando, FL, Anh Tam Pham and his wife Sun Young Pham of Leesburg, VA, daughter-in-law Mai Bui of Aldie, VA, step-daughter Mai La and her husband Tai La of Frederick, MD, and step-daughter Phuong Nguyen of Beltsville, MD; eleven grandchildren, Victor, Nicholas, Quentin, Roman, Jules, Nicole, Ryan, Maximus, Taylor, Jordan and Lucas; sister Trinh Tuyet Thi Pham of Melbourne, Australia and brother Đức Trí Pham of Melbourne, Australia; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thi Van Pham and Nen Thi Huynh, his first wife Liên Kim Thi Đặng in 1976, his eldest son, Anh Phi Pham in 1994, and his second wife, Bởi Thi Phan in 1999.
